Unsettling Week: Not the Best of the West

This has been an emotional week. Saturday's news of the Tragedy in Tucson has left me with many emotions. My father, who died last October, lived in Tucson. He attended The University of Arizona for graduate school in the late 1950's. I attended the University of Arizona as well as my mother, her brothers and now my two sons. In the midst of this unspeakable tragedy, Classes were supposed to resume today for my sons, but because of President Obama's speech, classes were delayed and will resume tomorrow. My youngest son is a Freshman, and my oldest has transferred to the University mid semester as a Junior. He went to Tucson yesterday to register for classes, find an apartment and get to know the campus. My father, was in terrible health the six months before he died. He spent a lot of time at UMC I know UMC very well because of all the time he spent in that hospital. It is a fine hospital with a fine staff. I pray for all the victum's of the shooting, their families and their friends. As a parent of twenty year old boys, I pray for the parents of the shooter. My most important mission in life as a mother is to raise boys that can live a healthy and productive life filled with joy. I can not imagine the pain of that failure.

I am Muddle headed, so I think I'll cook

I am muddle headed today. Its the New Year and I am excited about it, but I am stuck today. When I get stuck, I cook. I made stock from our Christmas Turkey, and it is a tradition in our family that we always make tortilla turkey soup with the leftovers, and that is what I am going to do. Its cold, I'm muddleheaded and I am going to cook....and then I'm going to eat.

Western Spring

Today in my city, we are expecting wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour! Dust, Cold and maybe rain... I am distracting myself with these beautiful images from Ralph Lauren's RTW Spring Collection 2011. I adore these looks! I love how Mr. Lauren incorporates the subtle patterns that I adore about Southwest design. I love the contrast of the metallics and suede! Gorgeous!

Enchilada Friday

For the last 20 years, yes Twenty...our family has been eating a red enchilada on Fridays at a local restaurant. Today I am bummed because I have an emergency cut and color and have to skip this wonderful tradition!! The tuna salad I will eating will not make me happy like this wonderful plate of food would. I will post the recipe for red enchiladas very soon!!

I'm Nervous!!

I am nervous!! I just gave the go ahead on a headboard that I am having made for our master bedroom. I am nervous because it is going to be bold!! I am using the "Los Ojos" blanket from Pendleton for the fabric. I love the graphic nature of the black and white design. I live in white box type of house, and our bedroom really needs a focal point...well, we're going to have one!!

Why I started this Blog

I am starting this blog because I want to showcase the unique food, fashion and design that I love about where I live. I grew up in California, went to college in Arizona and have made New Mexico my home for the last 26 years. I am new to blogging, so I if anyone has any tips, please pass them along! For instance, when I published the post about the Ralph Lauren fashion, it took me all morning how to figure out how to upload the images! Please let me know what you like, and want to see more of.
